New therapy aims to retrain the brain to ease chronic pain in veterans

NCT ID NCT07137715

First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated Jun 12, 2026 · Updated 36 times

Summary

This study tests whether Pain Reprocessing Therapy (PRT) works better than Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) or usual care for veterans with long-term back or neck pain. PRT teaches the brain to reinterpret pain signals as less threatening. 360 veterans will be randomly assigned to one of the three groups and complete questionnaires about their pain and quality of life. The goal is to find the most effective way to reduce pain and improve daily functioning.
