New pain block tested for Kids' penile surgery

NCT ID NCT07197203

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study compares two types of nerve blocks—caudal block and sacral erector spinae plane block—both using a numbing medicine plus dexmedetomidine, to see which provides longer pain relief after hypospadias repair in boys aged 1-6. The goal is to improve comfort and reduce complications. Sixty-six children will take part.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance
bupivacaine with dexmedetomidine
What this could lead to
If successful, this could establish a better pain-block method for children undergoing hypospadias repair, reducing discomfort and speeding recovery.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-phase trial (66 children) comparing two techniques; results may not apply broadly, and the newer block may not prove superior or could have unforeseen side effects.
