First seen Apr 08, 2026 · Last updated May 02, 2026 · Updated 3 times

Summary

This study tested whether a specific nerve block (called Quadratus Lumborum Block type 3) can reduce pain and the need for strong painkillers after total hip replacement surgery. Sixty adults having hip replacement were randomly given either the nerve block with a numbing medicine or a placebo (salt water). The main goal was to see if the nerve block lowered opioid use in the first 24 hours after surgery.
