New combo could cut morphine use after hip surgery

NCT ID NCT06577155

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study tested whether adding nalbuphine to the standard spinal anesthetic levobupivacaine helps control pain after total hip replacement. Sixty adults were split into two groups: one received levobupivacaine alone, the other received levobupivacaine plus nalbuphine. Researchers measured how much morphine patients needed in the first 24 hours, along with pain scores and side effects.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

nalbuphine

What this could lead to

If it works, this could offer better pain relief and less need for morphine after hip replacement surgery.

What could go wrong

This is a small, early-phase study with only 60 patients, so results may not apply to everyone. Adding nalbuphine may also cause side effects like dizziness or nausea.
