First seen May 19, 2026 · Last updated Jun 16, 2026 · Updated 7 times

Summary

This study tested whether a continuous drip of numbing medicine into the surgical wound for two days after back fusion surgery could reduce pain and speed recovery better than a placebo. Fifty adults having lumbar fusion for degenerative spine disease took part. The goal was to improve pain control, reduce opioid side effects, and help patients get back on their feet faster.
