Finding the right dose: nerve block study aims to cut opioid use after Weight-Loss surgery
NCT ID NCT07510347
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study compares three volumes of a nerve block (M-TAPA) to see which provides the best pain relief after laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy. Sixty adults undergoing this weight-loss surgery will receive one of three volumes of bupivacaine. The goal is to find the optimal volume that delays the need for additional pain medication and reduces opioid use.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
bupivacaine
What this could lead to
If successful, this could identify the best volume of local anesthetic for pain relief after sleeve gastrectomy, reducing opioid use and improving recovery.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-phase trial with only 60 participants, so results may not apply to all patients. The nerve block may not provide better pain control than standard methods.
