Finding the right dose: nerve block study aims to ease Post-Surgery pain
NCT ID NCT07670078
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 30, 2026 · Updated 2 times
Summary
This study compares three different volumes of a local anesthetic nerve block (SPSIP block) in 90 adults undergoing modified radical mastectomy. The goal is to see which volume best reduces pain and the need for additional painkillers like tramadol. Researchers will also map which areas of the chest become numb with each volume.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
bupivacaine (local anesthetic)
What this could lead to
If successful, this could identify the optimal volume of anesthetic for better pain control after mastectomy, reducing the need for opioids.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage trial (90 participants) comparing different doses, so results may not apply broadly. The block may not work equally well for everyone.
