New nerve block could improve recovery after mastectomy

NCT ID NCT07647367

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Aug 05, 2026 · Updated 2 times

Summary

This study compares two types of nerve blocks given before breast cancer surgery (modified radical mastectomy) to see which one helps patients recover better. Sixty women will receive either a newer block called subtransverse interligamentary plane block or the standard thoracic paravertebral block. The main goal is to measure recovery quality using a questionnaire that covers pain, comfort, emotions, and independence.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance
nerve block (local anesthetic injection)
What this could lead to
If successful, this could show that a newer, potentially safer nerve block provides recovery quality as good as the standard block after mastectomy.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage trial with only 60 participants. It may not prove the new block is better, and results may not apply to all patients or surgeries.
