NCT ID NCT07059455

First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study compared two types of nerve blocks — erector spinae plane block and transmuscular quadratus lumborum block — for pain after kidney transplant. Forty adults received one of the two blocks with bupivacaine. Researchers measured pain scores and painkiller use over 24 hours to see which block worked better.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

bupivacaine (Marcaine)

What this could lead to

If one block works better, it could improve pain control after kidney transplant and reduce reliance on systemic painkillers.

What could go wrong

This is a small, completed study with only 40 patients. Results may not apply to all transplant patients, and nerve blocks carry risks like bleeding or infection.
