Ozone water during root canals may reduce inflammation
NCT ID NCT07171762
First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 26, 2026
Summary
This study tests whether using ozone water during root canal treatment can reduce oxidative stress (a sign of inflammation) in the jawbone. Sixty adults with a single-rooted tooth and a silent infection will be randomly assigned to receive either ozone water or salt water as a final rinse. Researchers will measure chemical markers of stress in fluid from the tooth before, right after, and one week after treatment.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
ozonated water
What this could lead to
If successful, this could show that ozone water is a better disinfectant during root canals, potentially improving healing of the jawbone.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage study measuring chemical markers, not actual patient outcomes. The results may not translate to better dental health or pain relief.
