Ozonated ointments may improve surgical scar quality
NCT ID NCT07678372
First seen Jul 01, 2026 · Last updated Jul 01, 2026
Summary
This study tests whether using ozonated soap and oil after open abdominal surgery leads to better scar quality than standard care alone. About 144 adults having scheduled abdominal surgery will be randomly assigned to either add the ozonated products to their usual wound care or receive standard care only. A blinded evaluator will assess scar appearance at 3 months using a validated scale, and patients will also report their own scar experience.

What this could lead to
If it works, this could offer a simple, affordable way to improve scar appearance and reduce discomfort after abdominal surgery.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage study. The improvement may be small or no better than standard care, and some people may have skin reactions to the ozonated products.
