Breathing better under the knife: study tests lung support in obesity surgery

NCT ID NCT07629102

First seen Jun 10, 2026 · Last updated Jun 13, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study looked at 53 obese patients having laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy (weight-loss surgery) to compare two ways of helping them breathe during the operation. One group received standard ventilation support, while the other got a stronger support with higher pressure and extra lung-opening maneuvers. The goal was to see which method kept oxygen levels better and improved breathing after surgery. The findings help doctors choose the best breathing strategy for obese patients during this common procedure.
