Sister's ovary tissue may restore fertility in early menopause
NCT ID NCT06673004
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study tests whether transplanting ovarian tissue from a sister can restore fertility and hormone production in women with premature ovarian failure (early menopause). Ten women will receive tissue from their non-identical sister, along with immunosuppressive drugs to prevent rejection. The goal is to see if periods return and if pregnancy is possible.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
ovarian tissue transplant
What this could lead to
If successful, this could offer a way for women with premature ovarian failure to restore fertility and hormone function without needing an egg donor.
What could go wrong
This is a very small, early study with only 10 participants. The transplant requires lifelong immunosuppression, which carries risks like infection and organ damage. Success is not guaranteed.
