A 250,000-Person study aims to sharpen heart risk prediction with CT scans
NCT ID NCT05169333
First seen Jul 31, 2026 · Last updated Jul 31, 2026
Summary
This large observational study is collecting CT scans, blood samples, and health data from 250,000 adults to develop and validate new ways of predicting heart disease, stroke, and other cardiometabolic conditions. Participants aged 18 to 99 without active cancer are being enrolled across multiple centers. The study will follow participants for up to 15 years to see how well novel imaging and blood biomarkers predict future health outcomes, including mortality and non-fatal vascular events.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- What this could lead to
- If successful, this could lead to more accurate ways to predict who is at risk for heart attacks, strokes, and other cardiometabolic diseases, enabling earlier prevention.
- What could go wrong
- This is an observational study, so it cannot prove cause and effect. The findings may take many years to emerge and may not change clinical practice immediately.
