Gentle touch may ease sleepless nights for Parkinson's patients
NCT ID NCT06671600
First seen Jun 29, 2026 · Last updated Jun 30, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tests whether osteopathic manipulative treatment (OMT) — a hands-on therapy using gentle techniques on the head, neck, and ribs — can improve sleep quality in people with Parkinson's disease. Participants are split into two groups: one receives OMT, the other a light touch placebo. Sleep is tracked with Fitbit devices and surveys, and cognitive function is also measured. The goal is to see if OMT can be a safe, drug-free way to help Parkinson's patients sleep better.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
osteopathic manipulative treatment (OMT)
What this could lead to
If it works, this could offer a drug-free way to improve sleep and quality of life for people with Parkinson's disease.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage study with only 32 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. The light-touch control group helps, but the effect may be small or due to placebo.
