Experimental drug combo targets tough brain cancers
NCT ID NCT07635173
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This early-phase trial tested a new drug called obitazidine (SM-1) combined with the chemotherapy temozolomide in 35 adults with recurrent high-grade gliomas, a type of aggressive brain cancer. The main goal was to find a safe dose and check for side effects, while also looking for signs that the combination might shrink tumors. The study is complete but results are not yet reported.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Obitazidine fumarate (SM-1) combined with temozolomide
What this could lead to
If successful, this could point toward a new combination treatment option for patients with recurrent high-grade gliomas that have stopped responding to standard therapy.
What could go wrong
This is a very early Phase 1 trial with only 35 participants, focused on safety and dosing. It is too small to prove effectiveness, and the combination may cause serious side effects or fail to shrink tumors.
