Nurses take the lead: could nurse-led methadone dosing keep more people in treatment?
NCT ID NCT07085377
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tests a new approach where nurses, rather than doctors, adjust methadone doses for people starting treatment for opioid addiction. The goal is to see if this makes it easier for patients to stay in care for at least three months. The trial will enroll 182 adults in French addiction centers and compare the nurse-led method to usual care.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
methadone
What this could lead to
If successful, this could make methadone treatment more accessible and flexible, helping more people stay in care for opioid addiction.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage study in France, so results may not apply elsewhere. The approach relies on nurse training and local regulations, which may limit broader use.
