New scans may replace painful heart tests for thousands with chest pain

NCT ID NCT06070662

First seen May 01, 2026 · Last updated May 10, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study explores whether CT and MRI scans can diagnose coronary microvascular disease (CMD), a condition where tiny heart vessels don't work properly, causing chest pain. Currently, diagnosis requires an invasive angiogram, which can be uncomfortable and risky. Researchers will compare new imaging techniques with standard invasive tests in 20 adults with suspected angina to see if the scans can reliably detect CMD.
