New bone graft material could improve spine surgery outcomes
NCT ID NCT06000319
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tests a new material called Natural Matrix Protein (NMP) fibers, made from human bone, for spine fusion surgery. It includes 200 adults with degenerative disc disease, spinal stenosis, or spondylolisthesis who need fusion of up to three vertebrae in the neck or lower back. The goal is to see if NMP fibers help bones fuse safely and effectively, reducing the chance of repeat surgery.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Natural Matrix Protein (NMP) fibers (human bone allograft)
What this could lead to
If successful, this could provide a safer, more effective way to fuse spine bones, reducing the need for repeat surgeries.
What could go wrong
This is an early-stage study with 200 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. Risks include bone resorption, inflammation, or ectopic bone formation.
