Blood test may spot hidden artery risk in dialysis patients
NCT ID NCT07179211
First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 26, 2026
Summary
This study looks at 120 adults on regular hemodialysis to see if a simple blood test called the neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) can help detect peripheral artery disease (PAD). PAD is a common but often overlooked complication in kidney patients. The goal is to find a cheap, easy way to identify those at higher risk, so they can get help sooner.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
What this could lead to
If successful, this could lead to a simple, low-cost blood test to help identify hemodialysis patients at risk for peripheral artery disease, allowing for earlier monitoring and care.
What could go wrong
This is an observational study, not a treatment trial. It only looks for a link between a blood marker and disease, so it won't directly improve health. The results may not apply to all patient groups.
