Summary

This study tested whether nifuroxazide, a gut infection drug, can help reverse confusion caused by liver disease (hepatic encephalopathy) in 80 adults with cirrhosis. Participants had moderate to severe confusion and were treated in the hospital. The goal was to see if the drug could improve mental status and lower ammonia levels.
