E-Cig study: does less nicotine mean less harm?

NCT ID NCT06619964

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This observational study follows 120 adult e-cigarette users for two weeks to see if those who use lower nicotine e-liquids have less nicotine exposure and fewer harmful chemicals compared to those using higher nicotine e-liquids. Participants will use their usual devices at home, complete daily surveys, and provide saliva, urine, and blood samples. The goal is to inform future regulations on nicotine content in e-liquids.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

What this could lead to

If successful, this study could provide evidence to guide regulations on nicotine levels in e-liquids, potentially reducing harm for e-cigarette users.

What could go wrong

This is an observational study, not a treatment trial, so it cannot prove cause and effect. Results may not apply to all e-cigarette users or devices.
