Could a Pre-Surgery immune booster tame brain cancer?

NCT ID NCT07134842

First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 2 times

Summary

This early-phase trial is testing whether giving the immunotherapy drug ipilimumab before standard surgery and chemoradiation is safe and helpful for people with newly diagnosed glioblastoma, an aggressive brain cancer. Sixteen participants will receive up to two doses of ipilimumab before their usual treatment. The study aims to see if the drug can shrink or control the tumor and whether it causes serious side effects.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

ipilimumab (an immunotherapy drug)

What this could lead to

If it works, this could point toward a new way to treat glioblastoma by using the immune system before surgery to help control the disease.

What could go wrong

This is a very early, small phase I trial with only 16 people, so results may not apply to everyone. The drug may cause serious side effects, and it is not yet known if it improves survival.
