Brain Radiation's hidden toll: new study tracks memory loss in blood cancer survivors

NCT ID NCT05011045

First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study follows 100 adults with blood cancers (like lymphoma or leukemia) who receive whole brain radiation. Researchers will test memory, thinking, and quality of life over time using MRI scans and questionnaires. The goal is to understand how radiation affects the brain, not to test a new drug or treatment.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

What this could lead to

If successful, this study could help doctors better predict and manage memory and thinking problems after whole brain radiation for blood cancers.

What could go wrong

This is an observational study, not a treatment trial. It will not improve outcomes for participants and may only show that cognitive decline is common after radiation.
