Alcohol injection around prostate may stall cancer spread

NCT ID NCT07100847

First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 26, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This early-stage study tests whether injecting alcohol around the prostate can block nerve signals that may help cancer grow and spread. Twenty-one men with high-risk prostate cancer who plan to have their prostate removed will receive one or two injections before surgery. Researchers will check if the treatment reduces nerve activity in the prostate and slows cancer progression.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

dehydrated alcohol (ethanol) injected around the prostate

What this could lead to

If it works, this could point toward a way to slow or stop the spread of high-risk prostate cancer by blocking nerve signals.

What could go wrong

This is a very early Phase 1 trial with only 21 people, so it is not yet proven to work. The nerve block may not slow cancer growth and could affect sexual or urinary function.
