Nerve block could make brain tumor surgery safer and less painful
NCT ID NCT07569952
First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tests whether a nerve block (injecting numbing medicine near a nerve cluster in the face) can improve the surgical view and reduce pain for people having pituitary tumor surgery through the nose. 70 adults will be randomly assigned to receive either the nerve block plus general anesthesia or anesthesia alone. The main goal is to see if the nerve block leads to less bleeding during surgery and better pain control afterward.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
bupivacaine and dexamethasone
What this could lead to
If it works, this nerve block could make pituitary surgery safer and less painful, with less need for strong painkillers.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage trial with only 70 people. The nerve block may not improve surgical conditions or pain, and carries risks like bleeding or allergic reaction.
