Can a simple antioxidant help babies with a rare liver disease?
NCT ID NCT06260566
First seen Mar 19, 2026 · Last updated May 16, 2026 · Updated 11 times
Summary
This early-stage study tests whether a liquid form of N-acetylcysteine (NAC) can be safely given to infants with biliary atresia, a rare liver condition that often requires a transplant. The main goal is to see if babies can keep the medicine down without vomiting. If successful, NAC might one day help improve bile flow after corrective surgery. Only 12 infants will take part.
