Stem cell therapy fails to help kidney rejection, raises safety flags
NCT ID NCT07005687
First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated Apr 30, 2026 · Updated 24 times
Summary
This study tested whether a patient's own stem cells (MSCs) could help treat chronic antibody-mediated rejection in kidney transplant recipients. Only 3 patients were treated before the study was stopped early due to serious side effects. The stem cells did not improve rejection, and one patient had a severe reaction. The findings highlight the need for caution when using stem cells in late-stage transplant patients.
