New AI tool could spot hidden prostate cancer on MRI scans

NCT ID NCT05710380

First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study tests a new software tool that automatically analyzes MRI images of the prostate to find cancer areas that doctors might miss. About 180 people with known or suspected prostate cancer will get an MRI and then a targeted biopsy. Researchers will compare the software's accuracy to that of experienced radiologists. The goal is to see if the tool can improve diagnosis and reduce missed cancers.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance
Risk Map Decision Support System (DSS) software
What this could lead to
If successful, this software could help doctors find prostate cancer more accurately during MRI scans, reducing missed cancers and unnecessary biopsies.
What could go wrong
This is an early-stage study with only 180 participants, so the software may not prove more accurate than current methods. It is a diagnostic tool, not a treatment.
