New heart surgery tweak may tame dangerous rhythm disorder

NCT ID NCT07236398

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study tests a modified Maze procedure done during heart surgery to treat atrial fibrillation, a common heart rhythm problem. About 151 adults with AFib scheduled for heart surgery will receive the procedure, which uses heat or cold to create scar lines in the heart and closes a small pouch to reduce stroke risk. The goal is to see if patients stay in normal rhythm 12 months later, while also tracking safety and quality of life.
