Experimental drug targets rare pancreatic cancer in small trial
NCT ID NCT04896073
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This phase II trial tested the drug Minnelide in 16 adults with a rare and aggressive form of pancreatic cancer called adenosquamous carcinoma of the pancreas (ASCP) that had not responded to prior treatments. Participants took Minnelide by mouth daily for 21 days of each 28-day cycle, for up to 12 cycles. The main goal was to see if the drug could control the disease by shrinking tumors or keeping them stable for at least 16 weeks.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Minnelide (a drug taken by mouth)
What this could lead to
If it works, this could point toward a new treatment option for a rare and aggressive form of pancreatic cancer that has not responded to other therapies.
What could go wrong
This is a very small, early-phase trial with only 16 participants. The drug may not shrink tumors or improve survival, and side effects could be significant.
