Mindfulness before endometriosis surgery: could it cut opioid use?
NCT ID NCT06141720
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This pilot study tests whether a single, brief mindfulness session before endometriosis surgery can help women cope with pain and use fewer opioids afterward. Twenty adults with endometriosis will be split into two groups: one gets the mindfulness session plus usual care, the other gets pain education plus usual care. Researchers will measure pain intensity, opioid use, and sleep quality to see if the mindfulness approach is feasible and worth studying further.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- brief mindfulness-based intervention (BMBI) and pain education
- What this could lead to
- If it works, this could point toward a simple, drug-free way to help women manage pain and reduce opioid use after endometriosis surgery.
- What could go wrong
- This is a very small pilot study (20 people) testing only feasibility, not effectiveness. The mindfulness session is brief and may not produce lasting benefits.
