Could a single drug break the cycle of painkiller dependence after back surgery?

NCT ID NCT07222072

Summary

This study is testing whether giving methadone after major spine surgery can help patients avoid long-term dependence on opioid painkillers. Researchers will enroll 120 adults undergoing complex back surgery to see if this approach is safe and practical. The goal is to collect data for a larger future trial that could offer a new way to manage severe post-surgery pain while reducing the risk of opioid addiction.
