New study seeks best method for heart ablation procedure

NCT ID NCT05805189

First seen May 13, 2026 · Last updated May 15, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study looks at two methods for treating atrial fibrillation (an irregular heartbeat) using a balloon catheter that delivers radiofrequency energy. About 60 adults with this condition will be randomly assigned to one of two approaches: one guided by a 3D mapping system (CARTO) and the other by standard X-ray (fluoroscopy). The goal is to see which method is faster, uses less radiation, and avoids the need for contrast dye, while still being effective at isolating the heart's veins.
