Scientists probe menopause Hormones' hidden impact on nerves
NCT ID NCT07420218
First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study looks at how the hormones estradiol and FSH, which change during menopause, affect the sympathetic nervous system—the part that controls your 'fight or flight' response. Researchers will give 80 perimenopausal women a medication to temporarily control these hormones, then measure nerve activity using MRI and other tests. The goal is to better understand how these hormonal shifts might influence health, not to test a new treatment.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Estradiol patch and GnRH antagonist
What this could lead to
If successful, this could clarify how menopausal hormone changes influence stress responses and blood pressure regulation, potentially guiding future treatments for heart health in menopause.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-phase mechanistic study, not a treatment trial. Results may not translate into direct clinical benefits or apply to all women.
