First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study tests whether a Mediterranean diet adapted to use local Indonesian foods can help obese women lose weight and improve health markers like inflammation and gut bacteria. Fifty-four women will follow either this diet or a standard low-calorie diet for 4 weeks. Researchers will measure changes in body composition, blood markers, and gut microbiota.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

Mediterranean diet adapted to local Indonesian foods

What this could lead to

If successful, this could show that a culturally adapted Mediterranean diet helps with weight loss and reduces inflammation in obese individuals.

What could go wrong

This is a small, early-stage study with only 54 participants, all women, so results may not apply broadly. Dietary compliance and short duration (4 weeks) limit conclusions.
