New study: looser sugar targets in labor may protect newborns

NCT ID NCT06643351

First seen Jan 06, 2026 · Last updated Apr 27, 2026 · Updated 16 times

Summary

This study looks at whether allowing slightly higher blood sugar levels in mothers with diabetes during labor can lower the chance of their newborns having dangerously low blood sugar. About 218 pregnant women with diabetes who plan to deliver vaginally will take part. Researchers will compare the usual strict blood sugar targets to a more relaxed approach to see which leads to healthier babies.
