Can treating mom's depression also help her child's asthma?
NCT ID NCT06623981
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study tests whether a short-term therapy called Enhanced Brief Interpersonal Psychotherapy (IPT-B) can reduce depression in mothers of children with asthma. Sixty Black mothers who have mild to moderate depression and a child with asthma will either receive the therapy or usual care. Researchers will check if the therapy improves the mother's mood and the child's asthma symptoms over six months.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Enhanced Brief Interpersonal Psychotherapy (IPT-B)
What this could lead to
If it works, this could show that treating a mother's depression in an asthma clinic helps both her mood and her child's asthma control.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage study with only 60 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. The therapy requires weekly sessions, which may be hard for some mothers to attend.
