Can a gentle touch beat back pain? VA tests manual therapy for veterans

NCT ID NCT07161661

First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated May 14, 2026 · Updated 27 times

Summary

This study looks at whether adding Osteopathic Manipulative Therapy (OMT) — a hands-on treatment where a doctor gently moves muscles and joints — to standard VA care can improve pain and daily function for veterans and service members with chronic low back pain. About 48 adults with pain lasting over 3 months will be randomly assigned to usual care or usual care plus OMT. The goal is to see if this approach is practical and worth testing in a larger trial.
