Could magnets ease tennis elbow? small study aims to find out

NCT ID NCT07544914

First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This pilot study will test whether a device that sends magnetic pulses to the arm can reduce pain in people with tennis elbow, golfer's elbow, or carpal tunnel syndrome. About 40 adults will receive either real or fake (sham) stimulation over two days. Researchers will measure pain levels and tissue oxygen changes right after treatment and up to 6 months later to see if it helps.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

repetitive peripheral magnetic stimulation (rPMS) device

What this could lead to

If it works, this could offer a non-invasive, drug-free option for managing chronic elbow or wrist pain.

What could go wrong

This is a very early pilot study with only 40 people, so results may not apply widely. The sham group receives weak pulses, which may still have some effect, making it hard to prove real benefit.
