Tendon pain showdown: which injection works better?

NCT ID NCT07714811

First seen Jul 20, 2026 · Last updated Jul 21, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study compares two types of injections—hyaluronic acid and platelet-rich plasma (PRP)—for treating chronic tendon pain, such as Achilles tendinopathy and golfer's elbow. Eighty adults with pain lasting over three months will receive two injections, two weeks apart, and be followed for a year. The goal is to see which injection better reduces pain and improves function.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance
hyaluronic acid injection or platelet-rich plasma injection
What this could lead to
If one treatment proves superior, it could offer a more effective, minimally invasive option for chronic tendon pain, reducing the need for surgery.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage study with only 80 participants, and results may not apply to all tendon conditions. Both treatments may provide only temporary relief.
