Magnetic seizures could replace ECT for schizophrenia

NCT ID NCT06672588

First seen Nov 17, 2025 · Last updated Jun 11, 2026 · Updated 32 times

Summary

This study tests magnetic seizure therapy (MST) as a gentler alternative to electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) for people with schizophrenia that hasn't improved with medication. About 80 adults with treatment-resistant schizophrenia or schizoaffective disorder will receive MST to see if it reduces psychiatric symptoms and improves thinking skills. The goal is to offer a better-tolerated option for managing this serious mental illness.
