New Blood-Based injection could beat PRP for knee pain

NCT ID NCT06932614

First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 26, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study tests whether a new, concentrated version of a patient's own blood platelets (called self-repair factor) works better than standard platelet-rich plasma (PRP) injections for knee osteoarthritis. 90 adults with mild to moderate knee arthritis will receive either the new factor, PRP, or a placebo. The goal is to see which treatment best reduces pain and improves knee function over six months.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

Lyophilized self growth factor (a concentrated form of the patient's own blood platelets)

What this could lead to

If it works, this could offer a more effective injection treatment for knee osteoarthritis pain and stiffness, potentially better than current PRP therapy.

What could go wrong

This is a small, early-stage trial with only 90 people. The new treatment may not prove better than PRP or placebo, and individual results vary.
