First seen Nov 18, 2025 · Last updated May 09, 2026 · Updated 28 times
Summary
This study tested whether a specific nerve block (erector spinae plane block) could reduce the chance of lung collapse after weight-loss surgery. 138 patients having laparoscopic bariatric surgery were randomly assigned to receive either the nerve block or standard pain medicine. The main goal was to see how many patients developed lung atelectasis (a partial lung collapse) after surgery.
