New hope for seniors with stubborn depression?

NCT ID NCT07623135

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study tests whether lumateperone (Caplyta) can help older adults (60+) whose depression hasn't improved with other treatments. One hundred participants will take either the drug or a placebo alongside their current antidepressant for 10 weeks. Researchers will measure changes in depression scores to see if the drug works better than placebo.

Active substance

Lumateperone (Caplyta)

What this could lead to

If it works, this could offer a new option to help older adults with hard-to-treat depression feel better.

What could go wrong

This is a Phase 3 trial, but it's still early and small (100 people). The drug may not work better than placebo, and side effects are possible.
