Laser zaps pain and speeds up braces treatment, study finds
NCT ID NCT04230096
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 2 times
Summary
This study tested whether low level laser therapy (LLLT) can reduce pain, speed up tooth movement, and improve gum health in people getting braces. 108 Pakistani patients aged 18-30 received either standard braces or braces plus laser treatment on their front teeth every three weeks for six months. Researchers measured pain, gum inflammation, and tooth movement to see if the laser helped.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
low level laser therapy (device)
What this could lead to
If it works, this could offer a non-invasive way to reduce pain and gum problems during braces treatment, and possibly shorten treatment time.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage study with no blinding, so results may be biased. The laser effect may be too small to matter in practice.
