Could an antibody finally treat long COVID?

NCT ID NCT05877508

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study tests whether a single dose of the monoclonal antibody AER002 can safely improve physical health in adults with Long COVID. The idea is that lingering virus or spike protein may cause ongoing symptoms, and the antibody might clear it. 36 participants will receive either AER002 or a placebo, and their physical health will be measured using a standard questionnaire at 90 days.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

AER002 (a monoclonal antibody)

What this could lead to

If it works, this could point toward a treatment for Long COVID by targeting lingering virus or spike protein.

What could go wrong

This is a small, early-phase trial with only 36 people, so results may not apply broadly. The antibody only works against certain virus variants, and side effects are possible.
