Can a simple blood test tell who needs more cancer treatment?

NCT ID NCT06287814

First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study is testing whether a blood test that looks for cancer DNA (called a liquid biopsy) can find leftover cancer cells after surgery in people with stage III colorectal cancer. The goal is to see if this test can help doctors decide who needs additional treatment and who can safely avoid it. The study will follow 70 patients for three years to see how well the test predicts cancer return.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance
liquid biopsy (ctDNA blood test)
What this could lead to
If successful, this could help doctors know which patients need more treatment after surgery and which do not, reducing unnecessary side effects.
What could go wrong
This is an early-stage observational study with only 70 participants. The tests may not be accurate enough to guide treatment decisions yet.
