New pain relief approach may ease suffering after brain surgery

NCT ID NCT07245290

First seen Jan 05, 2026 · Last updated May 19, 2026 · Updated 18 times

Summary

This study tests whether injecting a long-lasting numbing medication (liposomal bupivacaine) into the scalp before a brain surgery incision can reduce pain for up to 72 hours after the operation. About 100 adults scheduled for microvascular decompression (a surgery to relieve nerve compression) will be randomly assigned to receive either the numbing injection or standard care. The goal is to see if this approach leads to less pain, less need for strong painkillers, and a smoother recovery.
