Fat tissue disorder may worsen knee arthritis, new study suggests

NCT ID NCT07575555

First seen May 12, 2026 · Last updated May 15, 2026 · Updated 3 times

Summary

This study looks at how lipedema, a condition where fat builds up in the legs, affects knee osteoarthritis in women aged 30-65. Researchers will compare two groups of women with knee arthritis—those with and without lipedema—using ultrasound to measure cartilage thickness and questionnaires to assess pain and daily function. The goal is to understand if lipedema independently worsens osteoarthritis, which could lead to earlier diagnosis and better treatment plans.
